A poker hand is made up of 5 cards of the same rank. The highest hand is the Royal flush which consists of all the cards in your hand of the same rank and suits. A straight is a sequence of 5 cards in descending order that share the same suit. A three of a kind is 3 matching cards of the same rank and a pair is 2 matching cards of different ranks and an unmatched card.

The best way to do this is to study the games you play regularly and try to find patterns in their betting behavior. For example, you can learn to recognize conservative players by their tendencies to fold early and to only stay in a hand when they have a strong one.
